Hello and Welcome!

My name is Alexis St. Croix, and I have been a speech-language pathologist since 2015. I’ve spent that time working in Early Intervention, home health, K-5 public school, and independently within Vermont and Connecticut. I specialize in augmentative and alternative communication and social and emotional learning. My passion is to provide rich, creative, evidence-based supports to families and children with complex communication, social-emotional, and language and literacy needs.

When I worked in Early Intervention, or Birth to Three, I realized there was a significant need for explicit teaching about emotions and the healthy expression of emotions. Research shows that even very young children benefit from direct discussion and applied practice building the skills to manage big emotions. With this idea in mind I created a series of fun, accessible children’s books to support children and their caregivers when navigating these ideas.

The first two books in the We Are Wild series can be viewed here. They provide a clear explanation of a common emotion or feeling followed by a healthy way to express that feeling. Each concept is followed by a fun and simple story to demonstrate the idea through engaging visuals and rhymes. After each story there are six evidence-based strategies to teach healthy expression and understanding of each emotion to benefit children and caregivers.

I am also certified as an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) through RESNA, the Rehabilitation, Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America. The ATP certification recognizes demonstrated competence in analyzing the needs of consumers with disabilities, assisting in the selection of appropriate assistive technology for the consumers' needs, and providing training in the use of the selected devices. This training allows me to support individuals to trial, acquire and utilize alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) means when traditional speech is not possible, or is an obstacle for an individual. You can request an AAC evaluation or consultation by contacting me at WeFirstKids@gmail.com. I hold the certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and am licensed to practice in Vermont and Connecticut.
